Westminster Kennel Club dog show returns to Tarrytown; details
The Westminster Kennel Club dog show is back in Westchester. The annual pageant, which includes agility and obedience competitions – and the ultimate prize, Best in Show – will return to the Lyndhurst National Historic Trust site in Tarrytown from June 18-22.
It starts with the Masters Agility Competition on June 18 and ends with the announcement of the Best In Show at 7:30 p.m. on June 22.
Unlike last year’s event, which was devoid of spectators due to ongoing health concerns related to COVID-19, the 2022 show will be open to spectators.
As well as watching canine competitors put their best foot forward in the show rings, spectators can take special tours of Lyndhurst Manor and find vendor booths. The show will take place in tents on the grounds of Lyndhurst.
Tickets are on sale at westminsterkennelclub.org.
Admission prices for daytime events and agility preliminaries are $25 for adults; $12.50 for children 5 years and older. Children 4 and under are free. Admission prices for agility finals are $30, $15.
Due to capacity limitations at the Lyndhurst venue, there are no tickets available for Group Judging and Best In Show at this time. Please check the website for the most up-to-date information.
Also note that parking must be reserved, at $15 per day and is located off-site, either in Belvedere or Montefiore, both a short walk or shuttle ride from Lyndhurst.
Two new breeds will be introduced at the show this year. The Mudi, joining the Herding group, was originally bred to herd stubborn sheep and cattle. The breed is brave, alert and intelligent, according to the WKC.
The Russian Toy, joining the Toy Group, is a small square-built, sleek, athletic and cheerful toy dog. Their large, round eyes and high ears contribute to their bright, attentive expression.
