Chic wedding registry ideas, from plates to the best espresso machine

With wedding planning, your to-do list can seem endless. But there’s one task you need to raise to the very top: creating a wedding registry. Honestly, what’s more fun than creating a personalized gift list of things you need and things you love?

If you’ve never been married before, you’ve probably never signed up for anything. We thought a little education on the subject would be helpful. What are the benefits of a wedding registry? How does the process work? What should you include? Should you have a price cap? These are the questions from Andrea Hopson and Martha McKimm, owners of Grace Hopson, answers all the time. Here they share their professional marriage registry information.

Why should a couple take the marriage registry route?

“A wedding registry allows couples to share their gift preferences with their guests, and that benefits everyone,” McKimm says. “For couples, it’s a unique chance to upgrade your home and get exactly what you want. As for the guests, never underestimate how much they appreciate not having to guess what to get you! At our store, couples come to us because we’ve removed the burden of too much choice with our curated offer at multiple price points, making signing up both easy and inspiring.

Is there a magic number of items you recommend having on a wedding registry?

“The rule of thumb is to double your guest list,” says Hopson. “It gives your guests plenty of choice. We highly recommend adding items at multiple price points, as we see many guests group gifts together under a theme, such as essential kitchen tools or wine and cheese. This allows guests to choose gifts that fit their budget.

What’s a good price range to start with wedding registry gift items?

“We suggest starting at $50,” says McKimm. “We have items like a marble butter keeper or an olive wood salt keeper which are extremely popular as they represent an excellent price range for shower gifts. Couples also love adding online gift cards to their registries for customers who enjoy giving money or giving couples the freedom to get exactly what they want.

What are the 2022 marriage registry trends?

“Couples want modern, polished essentials that suit their lifestyle,” Hopson says. “Some of our registrants are much more likely to sign up for a locally made cheese platter and tapas plates than they are for a formal set of tableware. Most couples choose dinnerware that works for both everyday and entertaining. Our fringed linen napkins are always a top choice as they are non-iron and add a touch of sophistication to your table. Paired with an organic-looking dinnerware pattern, you get casual sophistication at its best.
